How to Clean Marble Floors in Bathrooms

Marble flooring is a great choice for bathrooms as it improves the overall beauty and sophistication. But it is natural that everything good comes with a price, and marble floors can sometimes go from aesthetic to an eyesore. This article will help you to know how to maintain, preserve and clean marble floors in your bathrooms to keep them beautiful.

Here are some easy steps to protect one of the best investments you can add to your home to increase its value.

Clean Marble Floors for Streak-free Shine

Sweeping and Dusting the Floor

Start cleaning the floor by sweeping and dusting the floor. Get rid of all the dirt and grit before moving onto the next step - adding marble cleaner. It is important to remove the leftover dirt and grit before that since they could otherwise act as an abrasive while mopping. It can also lead to scratching the surface of the marble.

Adding Marble Cleaner to Bucket

Follow the instructions carefully on the marble cleaner before using it. Add approximately one to four fluid ounces of it for every gallon of water. Always check the label on the container before using the cleaner to ensure that it is meant for cleaning marble floors.

Mopping the Marble Floor

Use an untreated mop to clean the marble floor of your bathroom. Make sure to keep the mop as well as water clean while cleaning the floor as the sediments on the mop could scratch the floor thereby leading to create unwanted scratch marks. Therefore it is often recommended to mop the marble floors of your bathroom in overlapping sweeps.

Letting the Marble Surface Dry Completely

You can either let the marble floor air dry or dry the floor using a towel after you clean marble floors. It is a must for the floor to let the surface dry to achieve a shine before using and wetting the bathroom again.

Check if there are any lingering stains on the floor after you finish cleaning the bathroom floor. You may need more robust ways to remove if there are any existing stains - you can use an effective marble stain remover for deep cleaning. Steps to Remove Urine Stains from Marble Floors

The chance of having urine stains on the floor, especially around the tiles is the biggest consequence of having marble floors in bathrooms. However, you can remove the stains that create etch marks on the surface of the marble. Etch marks look like a dull and light spot on the marble.

Mix Some Poultice

Add a cup of Hydrogen Peroxide to a mixing bowl. Add baking soda, or white flour into the bowl with a solvent. You would probably need about 1 lb. of solid absorbent material to remove every square foot of stain. The poultice should be thick and have a consistency similar to peanut butter.

Clean and Wet the Stained Area

Wipe and clean the stained area on the floor to get rid of loose grit and dirt as they can scratch the marble if not cleaned properly. Wet the surface that has urine stains with mineral water. It will allow the poultice to penetrate through the pores of marble and remove the stain.

Apply the Poultice

Apply poultice completely over the stain followed by adding an extra inch of poultice around the stain. Make sure that the applied poultice should be about one by fourth inches high from the surface of the floor.

Check the Prep and Poultice

You should ensure that there are no air pockets in the poultice, and then completely cover it with plastic wrap and secure its edges down using masking tape. Let the poultice dry completely and allow it to harden, which would mostly take approximately 48 hours.

Remove the Poultice

You can remove the masking tape as well as plastic wrap after two days, and then dampen the poultice by adding one by the fourth cup of water over it. Removing the poultice gets easier after this and you can use a wooden spatula for this. Follow by cleaning the surface with warm water and let it dry completely.

The poultice will penetrate the pores in the floor where the stains are and it will help in pulling the stains out of the marble. Using poultice is a very effective stain removal tactic that can be used on marble floors. The etch mark would look like a dull mark when compared to the unstained area after removing the stain.

Tips to Keep the Marble Floor Neat and Clean

Marble floors are great options for bathrooms when they can be taken care of well. The lustre and shine of marble floors will only last if you take proper care of them. But it is not so hard to keep them clean and beautiful despite what most people often say. Just make sure that you protect them from etching and follow basic cleaning regularly to ensure their lifetime.

Make sure that you never spill cleaners on the surface of the floor while cleaning the tub, toilet, and showers. Most cleaners are very acidic, which will quickly etch the floors.

Water can be present on the floor of bathrooms for a long period. In that case, you can always wipe the water off the floors after bathing or spilling water as quickly as possible. This will prevent a lot of problems in the future and prevent spots of hard water.

It is important to clean up spillages as quickly as possible. Marble is a very absorbent material, so quick cleaning is important to prevent the formation of stains on the floor. You can use distilled water that is removed of the minerals and impurities.

Another important thing to keep in mind is to always use soft mops to clean the floors. Avoid using equipment like vacuum cleaners and hard brushes as they might damage the surface of the marble. Use hot water and soap to clean the floor initially. You can then mop the floor again using cold clean water to get rid of the remaining suds and debris. Always change the water regularly while mopping marble floors to avoid scratching the floor with dirt.

Make sure that you clean marble floors regularly using a marble cleaner. Avoid the use of regular ordinary household cleaners as they may lead to the etching of marbles and losing their shine.

Always use mats and runners at the doors of all bathrooms, especially for the ones that have marble flooring. However, contact the local marble professional or an experienced handyman in Singapore if you feel that the entire floor of your bathroom has been dulled to refinish the floor.
