How to Use Microfiber Cloth for Cleaning

December 21, 2023

It is so common that we all use microfiber cloths for different cleaning needs in our homes, but how many of us realise the full potential of it. Microfiber cloths are made with synthetic fabric which is usually nylon and polyester in equal amounts. Forcing these two plastics through a small pipe and weaving them together using heat helps to split the fibres into microfibers. These small fibres can be almost twenty times smaller than the original ones and about two hundred times thinner than the human hair. The split microfibre technology helps in creating such tiny fibres that can remove spores, microbes, and other pollutants from many surfaces without the use of cleaners and chemicals while cleaning.

Microfiber cloths effectively remove dirt and grime than other cleaning cloths we use traditionally in our homes. A large microfiber towel has enough surface area when compared to small cotton cloths. As a result, it can absorb seven times its weight in liquid. Microfiber cloths help to reduce the amount of water and cleaning agents we use while cleaning the surfaces and appliances at our homes. These cloths also dry easily and hence there won’t be bacterial growth on these cloths.

How to Use Microfiber Cloth for Different Types of Cleaning?

Microfiber cloths should be kept as one of the most important tools in your housekeeping kit. It could probably be the most simple and easiest one to use among everything else. You only have to use a section of it when you clean using a microfiber cloth. Folding and using them gives you the option of having eight sections to dust and clean without washing it too many times.

Here are some cleaning activities you can do easily using microfiber cloths.

Dusting the Surfaces

Dusting with microfiber cloths helps to trap more dust and dirt when compared to traditional cleaning cloths like cotton rags. The use of microfiber cloths makes everyday dusting easier and quicker. Cleaning Fans, Countertops and Appliances

You can use a microfiber cloth to wipe ceiling fans, kitchen countertops, cabinets, and even the large and small appliances you use in the kitchen. You can fold the microfiber cloth into sections, dampen one half of it to clean dirt and grime, and then switch to a dry section of it to polish the surfaces for more shine. Microfiber cloths are safe to use on stainless steel as they do not scratch their finish.

You can get a pack of microfiber towels from the supermarket to wash your car. It is easy to wash your car’s exterior using a microfiber towel, soap and water. Use a dry microfiber towel to dust its windows, windshield and interior.

How to Clean and Maintain Microfiber Cloths?

You need to prioritize cleaning microfiber cloths and towels at your home just like you clean the other cleaning tools. These clothes have to be made free of dirt and dust after you use them every time. You can use microfiber cloths of different colours for different chores. You can wash these clothes quickly with your hands, but you can also throw them into the washer.

Here are a few aspects you will have to be careful about while cleaning your microfiber cloths.

  • The static charge of microfiber cloths will attract dust, hair, and lint. Therefore, make sure that you wash and dry these towels separately.

  • You can skip the dryer as microfiber clothes dry very quickly. You can air dry them after washing.

  • Wash very dirty microfiber clothes using hot water and a mild detergent, and wash lightly soiled microfiber clothes in cold water.

  • Avoid the use of bleach and fabric softeners on these clothes as the strong chemicals in bleach and softeners could break down the fibres making the clothes less effective for cleaning.

You can use a microfiber cloth without damage for around two years if you maintain it well with regular washing and drying. A new study has shown that the performance of microfiber cloths improved after seventy-five washes and that they lessened after around one hundred and fifty washes.
